Nissan had a bit of room for improvement in the 1990s but it saw a full recovery after Carlos Ghosn took the wheel. The Nissan CEO is known for reviving the Japanese brand and nurturing it to become the automotive powerhouse that it is today. Now, an era is coming to an end as Ghosn announced he would be stepping down from his position just a few weeks ago.
The Japanese brand thrived under Ghosn’s control and quickly rose to prominence as one of the most well-known companies in the world. Ghosn’s career at Nissan began when he was the executive vice president of Renault. The French automaker took on $5.4 billion of Nissan’s debt in exchange for a hefty stake in the company in 1999. Ghosn took up the top spot at Nissan in 2001 and quickly turned the company around.
He revamped the entire range of vehicles with fresh styling and more features, and responded to customer feedback by making vehicles more appealing. Combined with cutting costs, Nissan came back from the brink of death and became a force to be reckoned with in the modern day.
Ghosn isn’t leaving Nissan completely though. He plans to remain chairman and continue to do what he believes is best for the automaker.
We here at Tom Naquin Nissan couldn’t be prouder of Ghosn’s accomplishments as CEO of Nissan!
NISMO has served as one of the most premier performance divisions in the automotive industry and has come up with a line of unique, performance-driven designs since its founding in 1984. The latest model to roll off the line comes in the form of the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO, a compact car designed to offer thrilling performance and pristine handling.
The Sentra NISMO pounds pavement with a 1.6-liter DIG turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 188 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque without breaking a sweat. The model is designed for enthusiasts who want to put the thrill back into driving a compact car.
As with all NISMO vehicles, the Sentra boasts a NISMO-tuned suspension and a reinforced chassis. That, combined with a lower stance, adds up to incredibly responsive handling. The 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels come standard and large front brake rotors complement the powerful engine.
Style comes standard as well, with several NISMO-exclusive cues. The fascias come emboldened by a signature red stripe while black outside mirrors add to the overall flair. The unique LED daytime running lights and front grille create an intimidating presence. A NISMO badge wraps up the whole package as one of the most performance-oriented compact cars to ever hit the street.
We here at Tom Naquin Nissan are pumped to see more performance-oriented cars coming out of the NISMO division!
Halloween has kicked off the holiday season and, with November already here, it’s time to start making plans for your Thanksgiving travels. Traveling around Thanksgiving can leave many drivers and passengers stressed out. Taking a step back and assessing the situation is sometimes the best way to determine the best course of action. Here at Tom Naquin Nissan, we have some excellent Thanksgiving travel tips to help you arrive at your destination this holiday season.
Plan – Thanksgiving is the busiest time to travel out of the entire year which means proper planning goes a long way. Schedule flights well ahead of time and arrive a few hours, if not more, early to avoid getting stuck in long lines. Make sure you have everything you need as well. The last thing any traveler wants is to have to head home to grab the plane tickets.
Drive – Driving is still a viable option for many travelers, but it’s gotten a bit more technical in the past few years. Navigation systems and smartphones can help avoid road hazards like accidents and traffic jams, making the trip go by much quicker. Use technology to your advantage this holiday season.
Pack – No matter how you plan on traveling, try to pack light. Doing so lowers the stress of forgetting something as there’s less to keep track of. If needed, ship your other items, like extra clothes, through the mail to avoid baggage fees.
Speed demons and car fans alike know the Nissan GT-R’s sleek style and power makes it one incredible supercar. Now the Japanese automaker is upping the ante with an even more powerful version of its supercar. The new 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo has arrived at dealerships and it packs the power to go along with its price.
The performance-driven Nissan GT-R Nismo boasts a starting price of $176,585, which sticks it around the range of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. That’s a significant increase compared to the GT-R Premium’s price of just over $111,000.
The new GT-R Nismo boasts a larger grille that’s as practical as it is aggressive. The new grille allows for more airflow to help cool the engine.
The new supercar brings a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces a furious 600 hp. The standard Nissan GT-R produces just 565 hp.
The sleek Nissan GT-R Nismo is assembled by hand and the name itself indicates upscale performance. The “GT” stands for “Grand Touring” while the “R” stands for “Racing.”
Differences between the standard model and Nismo performance version include the addition of carbon-fiber bumpers, black outside mirrors with a rear stripe, carbon fiber side sills, and a Titanium exhaust system. Inside, the GT-R Nismo boasts a leather instrument panel and lightweight seat design.
Here at Tom Naquin Nissan, we’re hyped to get behind the wheel of the new Nissan GT-R Nismo!
The Nissan Armada is one most versatile full-size SUVs on the market and the latest model promises even more capability. Available at dealerships now, the 2017 Nissan Armada comes fully stocked with all the features a driver could want. Nissan announced pricing information for the fan-favorite SUV not long ago as well.
To kick things off, the 2017 Nissan Armada starts at just $45,395 for the base SV model. The SL trim boasts a $50,145 price tag and the top-of-the-line Platinum trim comes in at $58,085. While the prices may seem steep, this SUV comes fully loaded.
The base SV model features standard navigation, an eight-inch touchscreen display, heated front seats, and a 13-speaker Bose audio system. Under the hood of every Armada is a 5.6-liter V8 engine that pumps out 390 horsepower and is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The new Nissan Armada offers an available technology package that includes advanced safety features like intelligent cruise control, forward emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring systems.
Meanwhile, the Captain Seat package replaces the second-row bench seat with captain’s chairs. Finally, the Driver package (SV only) adds convenience features like a power liftgate.
Nissan recently launched a new Sentra that will come equipped with the brand’s ProPILOT autonomous drive technology. Set to go on sale in late August in Japan, this technology offers convenient and safe autopilot technology behind the wheel.
According to Nissan, this technology is designed for single-lane traffic on the highway. Combining sensors with steering, acceleration, and braking control, drivers will be able to switch on a full automatic mode, easing the driver workload in heavy traffic and on longer commutes. The driver can easily activate and deactivate the system, which is designed to essentially drive itself.
“Nissan will advance its leadership in autonomous drive technology by introduction in each market’s core models, further improving safety and pioneering a new era for the automobile,” said the automaker in a release.
This breakthrough technology is something that other brands have been working on for years. Nissan has finally perfected autonomous driving, making it easier than ever to travel. Although there is no word yet when the system will hit the US, it looks like it could soon be on its way. The goal for Nissan is to reach a zero-emissions and zero-fatalities reality, making mobility cleaner and safer than ever. ProPILOT is just the first step. We can’t wait to see what else Nissan engineers have up their sleeves.
Nissan is pushing for automotive innovation, so much so that the automaker recently began the Nissan Intelligent Mobility project by creating the Joint Research Center at Tsinghau University. Dedicated to the future of mobility, including electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies, this research center is bound to make driving better.
What’s this mean for consumers? Nissan began this project with the future in mind, so it is likely that the products of such an extensive research project will not be immediate. In particular, the Intelligent Mobility project is currently studying EV technologies like battery safety, as well as self-driving cars and new traffic systems. Vehicle-to-vehicle communication is also promising, as well as intelligent/wired roadways.
“As we continue to expand our R&D capabilities throughout the world, we aggressively pursue our activities to create new values of mobility here in this new research center in Beijing,” said Takao Asami, Senior VP of Nissan Motor Co.
Pollution is a major issue Nissan engineers are also tackling, looking for ways to reduce, if not eliminate, harmful vehicle emissions. Electric vehicles are promising because they do not burn fossil fuels directly; however, many electric plants are still powered by coal. The ideal Nissan vehicle will not only be able to drive itself, but it will also run on renewable electricity. We can’t wait to see the fruits of work done at this brand new research center.
If you’ve ever sat in the cockpit of a jet, then you’ll feel right at home at home in the cockpit of the 2016 Nissan Maxima. The jet-inspired interior earned the Maxima a place on WardsAuto’s 10 Best Interiors list for 2016.
The editors at WardsAuto praised the Maxima for its warm, inviting interior that rivals design and quality from more expensive luxury brands.
“This interior makes a brilliant first impression,” said WardsAuto Senior Editor Tom Murphy, in a statement. “The Maxima exhibits expert craftsmanship and reminds us once again why it serves as Nissan’s flagship. We love the black-and-camel color scheme, two-tone flat-bottom steering wheel, ‘Liquid Chrome’ metallic trim and Alcantara diamond-quilted seating surfaces. Nissan took some chances with the Maxima interior, but the rewards are evident.”
In order to be considered for a spot on the list, the interior has to be all-new or significantly changed. There were 47 nominees up for consideration this year. The judges spent most of February and March evaluating the vehicles and scoring them based on ergonomics, materials, fit-and-finish, aesthetics, safety, comfort, and driver information.
Stop by Tom Naquin Nissan today and experience the jet-inspired interior in the 2016 Nissan Maxima for yourself.
