Nissan Announces Plans to Develop New Crossover EV

Nissan is no stranger to the green car segment. The Nissan LEAF has made big waves over the years, introducing new technology and better mileage to a segment that used to be aimed at a particular niche of buyers. Now though, EVs are becoming more and more popular. After announcing recent plans to develop a new crossover EV, Nissan seems to be taking advantage of its reputation for innovative, clean cars by tapping into one of the most popular segments on the market – crossover SUVs.

What will Nissan dream up next?

At the core of Nissan’s company is the Nissan Intelligent Mobility philosophy, which puts cutting-edge tech like self-driving, connectivity, and vehicle electrification at the forefront of its design and engineering. Expanding its EV lineup is one of the company’s major goals, with Nissan even putting out concepts of electric sports cars, so it’s no surprise that they’re taking the EV segment in a new direction by planning to launch a crossover EV by 2019.

The new crossover EV will make use of the Vmotion 3.0 drivetrain, piggybacking off the success of the Vmotion 2.0 concept introduced at the Detroit Auto show. The concept is slated to make its first appearance at auto events sometime this year to give enthusiasts a taste of where Nissan’s crossover EV is headed in terms of design.
